Twitch has revised its guidelines regarding nudity or partial nudity, with the new changes targeting those streamers who implied nudity in a variety of ways.
The well-known streaming service has once again updated its clothing policy, effectively ending the dreams of some streamers who wanted to capitalize on the popularity of nudity in their live streams, even if it was implied. The change is in response to the rise of new and popular live streams also known as ‘Black Bar Meta’, in which streamers implied they were nude but artificially covered any of the areas that would make someone label them naked by using clever angles in framing their cameras or by using black censorship strips that covered their breasts, buttocks or genitalia. Such streams divided the Twitch community and were flagged or reported as “Sexually Content,” although they did not actually violate Twitch’s dress code policy, which prohibited streamers from displaying nudity.
According to the new policy that went into effect just recently, streamers are no longer allowed to “imply or suggest that they are fully or partially naked”, Streamers are also not allowed to show visible outlines of their genitalia, covered by clothing or not as well as covering their breasts or genitalia with other objects or censorship strips. Female streamers must have their nipples covered, but are allowed to show cleavage as long as “it is clear that the streamer is wearing clothing.”

Twitch has made multiple changes to its nudity and sexual content policy and guidelines recently. In December, a change to its policy allowed streamers to feature nudity that is the product of fiction or fantasy, although in all cases they were required to follow the community’s dress code.
Twitch, however, was “caught napping” and was forced to quickly withdraw this change as it saw a large influx of hyper-realistic nudity created with the help of artificial intelligence and self-criticized, saying that it probably “went too far” with these changes. Now, after new changes to its guidelines for streamers, any form of nudity, implied or not (unless it’s some form of art, like a naked statue in some town square, etc.) is banned, officially putting an end to it. in the dreams of some who wanted to exploit the naked to increase their… income.
Either way, Twitch will continue to find itself in this inevitable conflict with its community, as streamers are motivated both financially and creatively to push the boundaries of Twitch’s terms of service. Twitch has changed its guidelines and terms of use three times in the past month, and with each change, the platform’s streamers have attempted to push the guidelines to the absolute limit in hopes of attracting new viewers with extreme content.

We expect this dispute, between Twitch, its advertisers and streamers, to continue into the future, or at least until a solution is found that satisfies all parties, as each party participates in the debate over what kind of content is or is not allowed. to be allowed on the platform, seems to have a different view of what is appropriate or not.
