Google is preparing a major design upgrade for the Drive, Sheets, Docs and Slides applications, with the aim of harmonizing with the philosophy of Material Design 3 and more reminiscent of the renewed look of Gmail.

Google is bringing support for third-party smart features (such as Notion and Coda) directly into the documents the user edits, while also adding its own extras such as the new timer, date shortcuts in Sheets, the ability to vote with emojis and invitations to insert into Calendar through Docs.
