Microsoft is doing everything it can to convince Windows users to use its own browser. After the ads it has scattered from time to time in various parts of its operating system and various applications, after putting messages saying download Edge because it is better than Chrome, now the tech giant is paying anyone who uses its “new” browser.
It appears that Microsoft has designed ads specifically aimed at Windows 10 and Windows 11 users. When a user visits the Google Chrome download page with Edge – which they will likely do after the operating system is complete – they will see a new pop-up that offers him “a deal”.
The pop-up mentions that Edge runs the same technology as Chrome and notes “trusted by Microsoft” as an added bonus. Even more interesting is the fact that the pop-up says that the offer will be available for the first 14 days.
No one knows what he means by this, but it may be related to some other findings. Microsoft has added more ads to the operating system, Windows 10 and 11, offering Gift Cards to those who use the Edge bar – a trial feature, or if they search with Edge for 3 days.
We don’t know if ads are showing to all users. We have four Windows 11 systems, updated to the latest version, and a couple of VMs, but we haven’t seen any of these ads anywhere.
Maybe there’s a region restriction or it’s a bug that triggers ads before Microsoft makes them available to the public.
