Microsoft’s Paint could be the next Windows app to get AI capabilities. According to a Windows Central report, Microsoft is exploring ways to bring app AI features to Windows 11, which could include the ability to create a canvas based on a text prompt.

Sources say the AI feature will be powered by the same technology behind Bing’s Image Creator, a tool that builds an image based on a user’s description. You can see what the integration of AI into Paint might look like in the image below made by Windows Central.

The image shows a “Magic Paint” button, along with a sidebar that allows you to enter a description of an image to be generated by AI. It looks like you can then transfer that image to the canvas to make any improvements, but it’s still too early to tell exactly how this will all work. In addition to Paint, Windows Central reports that Microsoft is also looking to add AI tools to Photos, the Camera app, and the Snipping Tool. For Photos, this could include a new feature that lets you identify people or objects in a photo and then cut and paste them into other areas.

As for the Snipping Tool and the Camera app, Microsoft may add optical character recognition (OCR) technology to both. This could potentially allow any app to recognize text in photos or screenshots, which would make it much easier to copy and paste information from those files.
