Whatever the problem was, it has now been fixed and Galaxy smartphones can receive updates.
Google Play System Updates is another word for Project Mainline module updates and should not be confused with Google Play Services app or Play Store app updates. You probably didn’t even know these updates existed, and we wouldn’t blame you if you didn’t notice that your Samsung Galaxy smartphone hasn’t received these updates in months.
Fortunately, whatever the problem was, it seems that it has now been fixed and your Galaxy smartphone can once again receive the missing updates and be properly updated. GalaxyClub reports that many Samsung smartphones have started receiving the delayed Google Play System updates again, allowing them to update several Galaxy phones stuck on the November 2023 Google Play System update.
The list of previously affected devices that can now get Google Play System Updates includes the Galaxy S23, Galaxy S22, Galaxy Z Fold 5, and the Galaxy S23 FE. There have been reports that after a few tries some have managed to get the updates on both the Galaxy A53 and Galaxy A34. However, this is not the case with the Galaxy S20 Ultra, which remains stuck on the May 2023 Google Play system update. There is a possibility that the fix will roll out gradually, time will tell. The report notes that this issue occurred again in 2022, with phones stuck on the July 2022 update. It was finally fixed in January 2023.

The same cycle repeated itself this time, with the issue appearing in the second half of the year and to be fixed in January 2024. It is not yet clear what the problem is causing Galaxy smartphones to be stuck on an older Google Play system update. Additionally, neither Samsung nor Google have commented on the issue or its solution. The update available on Galaxy smartphones right now is November 2023. How can you check if your phone has the latest Google Play System Updates? Go to “Settings > Security & Privacy > Updates > Google Play System Update” and click “Check for Updates”.
If your phone shows an installed update before November 2023, do a few refreshes to force the system to get the latest version.
