Apple plans to equip the entire iPhone 17 series with LTPO displays in 2025, according to reports from South Korea. According to a report citing industry sources, Apple is preparing for a universal upgrade to the screens of its devices.
The company will incorporate LTPO technology in all models of the iPhone 17 series, including the new Slim version and the base model. LTPO technology is a breakthrough in the field of OLED displays, allowing dynamic adjustment of the refresh rate while reducing power consumption. Until now, Apple limited this technology exclusively to Pro models, offering it under the name ProMotion.
The expansion of LTPO technology across the iPhone 17 range is expected to revolutionize the user experience. Users will enjoy a smoother response to screen interactions while benefiting from improved battery life. The new iPhone 17 Slim, which some leaks also refer to as the Air, is expected to feature a refreshed design with an emphasis on a thin profile.
The device will retain its titanium construction, while featuring a 6.6-inch display with a 120Hz refresh rate. However, due to space constraints in the slim body, it might only have a single rear camera. The A19 processor and 8GB of RAM will fully support the Apple Intelligence ecosystem. Market analysts point out that Apple’s move to expand LTPO technology is a response to competition from Android devices, which offer 120Hz displays at much lower prices.
LG and Samsung, Apple’s main display suppliers in South Korea, have already begun preparations for increased production of LTPO panels. Meanwhile, the iPhone SE, also expected in 2025, will retain the 60Hz display for cost reasons. It is worth noting that the final specifications may be modified depending on market conditions and supply chain constraints.
