With the advent of iOS 16, Apple introduced the ability to edit messages after you have sent them via iMessage, but this should happen within the first 15 minutes after sending in case you want to correct e.g. some spelling mistake.
A similar function is being tested in the latest beta version of WhatsApp. As you can see in the screenshot, there is an edit mark in the list of actions you can take after sending a message and the same 15-minute window applies if you change your mind.
In this first test, the editing is only for text messages, but it makes sense to extend it to descriptions of images, videos and documents before it is officially launched for all WhatsApp users.

At this stage the test only covers the beta version of WhatsApp for iOS devices and it is unknown when it will be officially launched.
We assume that the tests for Android devices will soon follow, as well as for the web version of the service.
