CAT presented its new smartphone at this year’s MWC, specifically the CAT S75.
Like the rest of the company’s models, this one stands out initially for its durability, having been tested in extreme conditions with repeated drops on steel plates from 1.8 meters, while it is impervious to dust, sand and dirt. Supporting IP68 and IP69K waterproofing standards, the S75 can reach a depth of up to 5 meters and can handle high-pressure water jets without issue.
According to the company, the Cat S75 “has also undergone demanding military-grade Mil-Spec 810H tests that ensure the phone can survive extreme temperatures, high humidity, fog, salt, shock and drop tests.”
The second major technical feature of the device, promoted by its manufacturer Bullitt Group, is MediaTek’s NTN (Non-Terrestrial Communication Network) chip that allows direct connectivity with geostationary satellites 37,500 kilometers above the earth, making it possible to sending a message or making an SOS help request, even in areas without mobile coverage. In cooperation with Bullitt Satellite Messenger, the first NTN satellite messaging service based on 3GPP standards, subscribers of the relevant service can send and receive SOS assistance requests via satellite.
It is still possible for anyone to receive such messages using the Bullitt Satellite Messenger app through the relevant iOS or Android app available on the App Store or Play Store respectively. Other technical features include the 6.6″ screen with a 120Hz refresh rate and 20:9 aspect ratio, a 5,000mAh battery with 15W charging support and an octa-core Dimensity 930 processor from MediaTek with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of expandable storage space. The main camera on back has a resolution of 50MP and comes with two more, one wide-angle at 8MP and one at 2MP for macro photography.
The CAT S75 runs Android 12 and according to the company will receive two major updates of Google’s operating system and 5 years of security patch updates. Its cost is set at €599 and it is expected to be released next month.
A free 3-month trial of Bullitt Satellite Messenger Essentials is included, which includes up to 30 satellite messages per month, after which the subscription cost is set at €4.99 per month.
