Sony extends limited warranty on select InZone gaming monitors to three years, includes burn-in coverage on M10S OLED model.

As reported by The Verge, Sony has announced an extended warranty for select InZone gaming monitors, including burn-in coverage for the first time on the 27-inch M10S OLED monitor. The upgrade comes after the launch of the InZone M10S OLED and M9 II LED models in September, which initially came with a one-year limited warranty to create a backlash.

Historically, manufacturers have avoided discussing burn-in or have characterized it as “normal use,” denying warranty claims for repairing it on various types of panels. OLED displays have traditionally been more susceptible to burn-in, especially when used with static images in a computer environment. However, in recent years, OLED technology has evolved significantly, making displays less susceptible to this phenomenon.

Alienware led the way in covering burn-in, explicitly including it in its three-year warranty on its QD-OLED display that launched in 2022, as well as its new 27-inch 4K model expected this year. In 2023, at the request of The Verge’s Sean Hollister, LG agreed to amend its warranty wording to explicitly cover burn-in on its OLED displays. Companies like MSI and Asus have also committed to covering OLED burn-in on select models, including their most recent releases in some countries.

Samsung, despite its general policy of excluding burn-in from warranty, confirmed through a representative that it covers the phenomenon on the 32-inch Odyssey OLED G8, although it remains unclear whether coverage extends to the newer 27-inch model.
