Facebook is betting big on Gaming, but for now it doesn’t even come close to YouTube and Twitch when it comes to this type of entertainment. To entice Messenger users to get more into Gaming, Facebook launched a new experience that lets them play games together during video calls.
The new feature serves no other purpose than to strengthen relationships with friends and family by engaging in conversations in conjunction with a game. Implementing this experience is no easy feat, which is why there are currently only 14 free games available on Messenger video calls.
The good thing is that you don’t have to install anything. Just tap the game you want to play with your friend and the game will start in minute. The list of available games includes a mix of new titles such as Card Wars and Exploding Kittens, as well as older popular games such as Mini Golf FRVR and Words With Friends.
The vast majority of games can be played by two people, but some support different numbers of players, so you should check this before running any of them. Playing games during video calls in Messenger is possible on both Android and iOS, as well as the web version of the chat app. To access the games you start a video call and press the group mode button, in the center.
Then just hit the “Play” icon and browse the game library until you find something you like. Please note that you may need to accept some permissions for your selected game before you can play. Accept everything if you want to play, or decline and not play. Finally, if you plan to use the new feature online, Facebook says you’ll have the best experience with Chrome — possibly any Chromium browser.
