At an event held in China, Huawei announced the new Nova 12 series, which consists of four devices, the Nova 12 Ultra, Nova 12 Pro, Nova 12 and Nova 12 Lite. The Nova 12 Ultra is, as the name suggests, the top-of-the-range phone and features an LTPO OLED screen with a diagonal of 6.76”, a resolution of 2,776 x 1,224 pixels and an adjustable refresh rate of 1 Hz to 120 Hz. The display supports 1 billion colors as well as the DCI P3 color space. It’s protected by durable Kunlun Glass and features a capsule-shaped notch at the top for two cameras, the primary 60MP ultra-wide (with 100˚ FOV and autofocus) and an 8MP unit (with 2x optical zoom) for portraits .

The back of the device is covered by a type of leatherette with a 3D embossed display of the “Huawei” and “Nova” trademarks and insignia. The camera island has an elliptical design and houses an LED flash, a laser focus sensor, the 50 MP main camera and an 8 MP ultra-wide camera. The main camera’s best feature, apart from of course the ultra-high resolution support and the RYYB color filter, is the natural variable aperture F/1.4~4.0. The ultra-wide camera on the other hand has a FOV of 112˚.

Huawei hasn’t officially announced the processor inside the device, but it’s believed to pack the Kirin 9000S paired with up to 1TB of storage. It also runs the HarmonyOS 4 operating system and supports satellite calling and messaging supported by the two-way Beidou satellite messaging system. It also packs a 4,600mAh battery and supports 100W fast charging. Elsewhere, the device features an in-display fingerprint scanner, dual-band GPS, NFC, and stereo speakers.

The Huawei Nova 12 Pro is exactly the same as the Nova 12 Ultra with the difference that it is offered in one more color (pink) and is slightly heavier (201 grams instead of 198 grams) while it does not have a leatherette on the back. The ‘Pro’ version is also not available in 1TB capacity. The Huawei Nova 12 Ultra is available in 512GB and 1TB capacities priced at CNY4,699 (approx. €600) and CNY5,499 (approx. €700) respectively. The Nova 12 Pro is available with 256GB and 512GB storage for CNY3,999 (around €510) and CNY4,399 (€560) respectively.

Apart from the above devices, the company also announced the Nova 12 and Nova 12 Lite to cover more price levels. The Huawei Nova 12 has a 6.7” OLED screen with support for a 120 Hz refresh rate and a resolution of 2,412 x 1,084 pixels. The screen supports the DCI P3 color space and 1 billion colors and a hole that “hosts” a 60 MP ultra-wide-angle camera (100˚ FOV). There is also a fingerprint reader under the display.

As in the case of the ‘Ultra’ and ‘Pro’ versions on the back there is an island for the cameras with an elliptical design that includes an LED flash, a laser focus sensor, the 50 MP main camera (with RYYB filter) and a 8 MP ultra-wide camera (FOV 112°). Inside is likely the Kirin 830 processor (the company didn’t mention the processor during the official presentation of the device) paired with 256GB or 512GB of storage and a 4,600mAh battery with 100W fast charging support.

The Huawei Nova 12 Lite is slightly thinner and lighter and has a smaller battery (4,500mAh) while supporting 66W fast charging. Inside it also packs the Snapdragon 778G processor and has a 50MP primary camera but without the RYYB color filter. The 256GB and 512GB versions of the Nova 12 cost CNY2,999 (approx. €380) and CNY3,399 (approx. €430) respectively while the Nova 12 Lite in the same capacities costs CNY2,499 (approx. €320) and CNY2,799 (approx. €355) respectively. The devices are available for pre-order in the Chinese market and shipments will begin on January 5.

At the moment, we do not know when they will be released in other markets.
