Xiaomi unveiled a brand new smartwatch at MWC 2023, the Watch S1 Pro.
This smartwatch runs a specialized operating system, MIUI Watch OS, developed by Xiaomi. Smartwatches running proprietary software may have advantages, such as impressive battery life, but Wear OS smartwatches offer a completely different experience.
Especially after the reset of Wear OS, the operating system offers much richer interface customization, enriched content in every aspect, and improved interface with more devices. Some of the best smartwatches on the market run Wear OS and are better propositions – based on experience and features – than those running proprietary software, albeit with less battery life.
But MIUI Watch OS differs from other proprietary operating systems because it is already based on Android. It’s just that Xiaomi didn’t want to follow the “rules”, like with Android One, so it made a “ROM” for smartwatches.
Nevertheless, the Chinese company probably saw what it was losing with its stubbornness – we don’t mean only the multitude of possibilities of Wear OS, but also the multitude of potential customers, and decided to change course.
According to an anonymous source, Xiaomi is preparing a new smartwatch that will run Wear OS 3 and may debut sometime before the end of this year.
