In reports yesterday, YouTube was facing accusations that it was causing video loading delays in non-Chrome browsers such as Firefox and Edge. At the same time, however, there are reports – albeit on a smaller scale – from users using the Chrome browser, who observe the same phenomenon.
Google issued a statement today, attributing the delay in loading videos to ad blockers, confirming that users should wait a little longer if they continue to use similar plugins. Earlier, a YouTube spokesperson’s statement to Android Authority said that “in order for the company to support a diverse ecosystem of creators worldwide and enable billions to access their favorite content on YouTube, they have begun an effort to convince viewers with enabled ad blockers allow ads to appear or try YouTube Premium.”
Users who have ad blockers installed may experience a degraded viewing experience, regardless of which browser they use.” Google’s statement clearly marks the delay as a deliberate change aimed at users who continue to use ad blockers. The move is another step in blocking ad blockers on YouTube so that users can either watch YouTube with ads or upgrade to YouTube Premium. This makes sense, as YouTube is a business that survives on ads and subscriptions.

Google’s statement also rejects the notion that the delay in loading videos is related to browsers. However, many users report that the lag disappears when they switch to the Chrome browser. However, there is a possibility that the change will be tested on accounts that have been identified as using ad blockers, selecting users who do not use the Chrome browser developed by Google itself.
The ultimate goal may be the widespread application of the change to all browsers.
