Apple is set to hold its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2023 next week. Ahead of the event, the company announced the winners of the WWDC 2023 Swift Student Challenge. Among this year’s winners is a 20-year-old girl from Indore, Madhya Pradesh, who created a mobile app designed to help users strengthen their eye muscles.

Asmi Jain is a 20-year-old girl studying at Medi-Caps University, Indore. She is one of 375 winners of the WWDC 2023 Swift Student Challenge, who were recognized by Apple for their “artistry and ingenuity”. While studying in college, Jain found out that her friend’s uncle had to undergo brain surgery which left him with disfigured eyes and facial paralysis.

Knowing this, Jain began designing an app that would track the user’s eye movements as they try to follow a ball moving across the screen. The purpose of the application is to help strengthen the eye muscles. Jain said it was important to her to create an app that could positively impact the lives of people like her friend’s uncle.

Although inspired by her friend’s uncle’s condition, Jain hopes her app can be used by people with various eye conditions and injuries. Jain’s next goal is to get feedback and make sure her app is efficient and user-friendly. Then, if all goes well, it will be released on the App Store. From there, he wants to improve the application to help strengthen all the facial muscles. Jain, one of the winners of the WWDC 2023 Swift Student Challenge, hopes that one day her app can serve as a therapy tool that people like her friend’s uncle will use at their own pace.

Apple says Jain’s desire to use programming to solve health problems stems from the many years she spent volunteering to help those around her. Recently, she and a group of friends created a forum at her university so that fellow students would have a support system for solving difficult programming problems. Finally, Jain stated that when you feel like you are part of something bigger, it motivates you and pushes you to do something better. Programming allows her to create things that help her friends and community.

In addition, it gives her a sense of independence which is very empowering. It is worth noting that Jain participated in the Swift Student Challenge for the first time.
